In this DIY project, Yme shows how he made speakers with sawn panels ordered online. By ordering the sawing work online, he was able to start his job immediately. Read more about his approach and experience below.

Description of Yme

The perfectly cut planks have been used to make two speaker boxes. Both cabinets are an exact copy of the original Altec Lansing speakers from the 1960s.

How I made this project

I further adjusted the custom-sawn planks of birch plywood myself for mounting speakers and horns, among other things. Everything glued and not one screw used! The veneer was then applied with great care. Rock wool mats stapled to the inside for all necessary sound insulation. The right color speaker cloth was selected and installed. The final assembly of the speakers and horns (second-hand aluminum horns found in Carlifornia), after which the filters and DB switches were installed. Finally, let the speakers play in to enjoy a great clear and warm sound.
